Today’s rapidly-growing healthcare landscape makes it possible for clinical nurses to choose from a wide variety of healthcare settings. While this is one benefit of many in this rewarding career path, many registered nurses (RNs) don’t fully realize just how many opportunities are available to them. For instance, certain facilities like hospitals and urgent care centers are typically preferred, but there are also often missed opportunities if you’re too laser-focused on those traditional settings. For example, home care is a setting with valuable benefits to consider.
“With an aging population of Baby Boomers, the home care field is continuing to grow at exponential rates,” explains Clare Adams, a Staffing Manager at ES Healthcare, a division of The Execu|Search Group. “As a result, many healthcare organizations are expanding their home care service to effectively serve their patients during all stages of care.”
Because RNs play a critical role in the continuity of care, experienced nurses with prior experience in home care are in high demand. “Nurses who can deliver that same high-quality care from a patient’s home will find numerous opportunities to continue to build their careers,” explains Clare. “And the benefits of choosing a home care setting are undeniable.”
For RNs interested in home care opportunities, Clare identifies these benefits as unique to this setting:
As nurses are conducting assessments and providing care in a patient’s home, the flexibility of this setting is almost unmatched in the healthcare industry. “For one of our current clients, an assessment lasts about three hours,” explains Clare. “And these can be scheduled on your time. Whether you prefer weekdays or weekends, that’s up to you.” Plus, there are part-time opportunities available as well. “With the pay for these opportunities being very lucrative, you can work as much or as little as you like—on your terms,” says Clare.
In tandem with flexibility, it’s important to note the autonomy you gain as a home care nurse, offering you a chance to enhance your clinical competency. “In this type of setting, you need to have the ability to make independent decisions about your patient’s care,” says Clare. “Since this requires a certain level of skill and experience, pursuing a home care role can help set you apart from other nurses when applying to jobs in the future.”
In addition to these benefits, RNs stand to gain excellent training from taking on home care opportunities. “Our client is currently hiring home care nurses and offering training to gain UAS experience,” says Clare. She explains that UAS (Uniform Assessment System) experience is not required for these roles, and the healthcare organization is excited to train nurses with experience in home care. “If you’re looking to gain UAS experience, this is an excellent opportunity to do so.”
If you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, our aforementioned client is currently hiring. We encourage you to check out the positions available and if you feel like you are a fit, please apply directly on our website or contact Clare at: cadams@execu-search.com.
