Tech Professionals: 4 Fall Hiring Trends To Look Out For

Although the weather seems to be cooling off as we move into fall, the search for tech talent is heating up! This is especially true now that September is here, and organizations begin looking toward the new year.

“After Labor Day, hiring certainly picks back up,” explains Lisa Samson, a Technical Recruiter within The Execu|Search Group’s Information Technology division. “If you felt discouraged from job searching in the past month, it’s important to note that any lack of activity during that time period is not indicative of a wavering market. Renewed from their time off, most of our clients are currently on the lookout for new talent and have a ton of great positions for a variety of tech professionals.”

This is especially true if you are pursuing a new opportunity in one of the following areas:

Technical Support: An increasing number of organizations are bringing help desk and infrastructure support specialists on board to resolve any end of year issues, clear out ticket queues, and assist with their implementations that need to be finalized before 2017. Since these roles are available across a wide variety of industries, now is the perfect time for these professionals to diversify their experience, pick up new skills, and broaden their network.

Skills to highlight: Thorough knowledge of various operating systems, networking, hardware, and software, as well as, the ability to clearly explain challenges and solutions to non-technical users.

Front-End Development: Since best practices for website and application design are ever-changing, the most forward thinking companies are constantly looking for ways to stay ahead of the curve. To do this, they are often bringing on project-based consultants to ensure their digital properties are up-to-date and offer the best user experience. “Hiring front-end developers on a temporary basis isn’t only beneficial to employers, but job seekers as well,” notes Lisa. “The tools and techniques for front-end development can change so frequently, so project-based work allows professionals to learn new skills with each new assignment.”

Skills to highlight: React, Angular, Node.JS.

Email Development: With the holidays quickly approaching, many organizations are starting to think about their upcoming campaigns and promotions, and the support they will need to ensure they will be a success. That’s why professionals with a hybrid background in tech and marketing will find themselves in especially high demand. “To develop their email campaigns, businesses need the help of talented web developers who have a creative background,” explains Lisa. “This role is really multifaceted. Although they will be developing the template the email goes in, the person needs to have an understanding of how the design can affect the consumer’s experience.”

Skills to highlight: HTML, CSS, JavaScript.

Project Management/Application Analysis: According to Lisa, a number of organizations are hiring project managers and application analysts to ensure their implementation projects are as seamless as possible. “Many of our clients, ranging from healthcare companies to accounting firms, are currently going through a variety of implementations,” she says. “They need experienced project managers and application analysts to lead and support the project from start to finish.”

Skills to highlight: Knowledge of relevant platforms, software, and programs such as MS Project, EPIC, and various enterprise resource planning tools (SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.) as well as being detail-oriented with the ability to strategically solve problems, manage budgets, track project timelines, and communicate effectively.
